Well, after the turkey/mashed potatoes/kolaches/crumpets whirlwind of yesterday, I just let everyone eat leftovers tonight, and made a lunch for Lou out of mashed potatoes and a ginger beef stir fry I'd made over the weekend. Since Lou hasn't been feeling great, he didn't go for the turkey (nor did I), so he went straight for his usual "just cheddar cheese" snack. He didn't even have crackers!
I took over, slicing and toasting a few pieces of garlic naan with my olive oil mister and some dry "Italian Seasoning." I searched the Cheese Box, and found half a dozen types of cheese that we picked up at the West Seattle Farmers' Market last weekend. I sliced a bit of each, sliced and sauteed some leftover sausage, split a dozen tiny cherry tomatoes, and grilled them with pieces of naan and totally meltable brie. Yeah, we're pretty much in a food coma right now, as we watch "Everything is Illuminated."
Great night so far. Hope you're all having a good one, too.

sounds yummy! I love any bread/cheese/fruit combo.
ReplyDeleteMe, too, Jen. We are cheese people in this house. Raw, cooked, aged, rinded, runny, so hard it'll break your toe if you drop it, and we love any animal who can gift us with its milk.
ReplyDeleteThe snack started with me raiding the Cheese Box, since Lou didn't even have any Wheat Thins to pair with his very boring Tillamook Vintage Cheddar, so I saw an unopened package of garlic naan that we hadn't used yet, so I sliced it up (randomly), spritzed it garlic olive oil with my "Misto" oil sprayer (I love that thing), and toasted them in the big skillet, sprinkled with dried Italian herbs.
We'd raided the Samish Bay Creamery last weekend at the West Seattle Farmers' Market, so we had a number of tasty toppings. I also had a bag of teeny, oblong, cherry tomatoes from the market, so I sliced them, stuck them on the pieces of naan that had brie, and topped each with a piece of tomato. Those went first both times (I made a bigger TV-watching platter last night).
My favorite cheese/bread/fruit combo has to be havarti, a fresh baguette, and a bosc pear (or a honeycrisp apple).
There was some great brie, that I melted on the
