This is Why the State Requires that I Wear Corrective Lenses While Driving

I've had this crumpet recipe for years, but I'm juggling dough and poultry here.  I wanted to make crumpets for breakfast, then have a kolache-making party while the turkey bakes.  So, I set up the kolache dough in the bread machine, then used my own hands for the crumpets.  I should have been able to handle it.  I also should have made a double batch, with 5 hungry people in the house.  When I went to make a second batch of crumpets, I used the "1-1/4 cup" measurement of water for the kolaches, instead of the "1/4 cup" that the crumpet recipe called for.

I added more sugar, flour, some vanilla, salt, and two egg yolks, covered My Big Yellow Bowl (MBYB) with Saran Wrap, and stuck it into a warm oven to rise.  Fifteen minutes in, I'm afraid to look.  I'm great at culinary improvisation, but when you're dealing with yeast, I'm not quite as confident.  I usually just use the bread machine.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

  • London Broil w/a wilted spinach and mustard green salad with a bacon, balsamic, and mustard dressing
  • Sweet and red potato pancakes w/zucchini and peppers w/chicken apple sausage
  • Italian wedding soup w/homemade croutons and meatballs
  • "Rock the Casbah" Cardamom, Ginger, Apple Pork Roast w/Armadillo Rice (for you fans of The Clash who remember the cover of Combat Rock)
